Digital Fabrication Instructor

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Deep understanding of safety policy, procedure and OSHA requirements
  • Understanding of machine function and maintenance
  • Ability to communicate course content effectively to groups with a wide range of experience levels – newbies to experienced students
  • 1 year of Experience developing teaching materials in a collaborative setting
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a focus on collaboration
  • Takes initiative, exercises good judgment, and utilizes diplomatic problem-solving skills
  • Ability to evaluate and prioritize tasks assigned
  • Willingness to communicate via multiple Slack channels, email, and other digital platforms
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Google Docs
  • Willingness to take continued safety training as required

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching CAD-CAM Design software such as Fusion 360, VCarve, common 3D printing slicers, and Adobe Illustrator, a plus
  • Experience teaching CNC Equipment Operation topics to folks 14 and up
  • CNC Metal Mill skills are a plus
  • A minimum 1-years of experience in member or customer relations, preferably in a museum, retail, or attractions environment is preferred
  • Bilingual or multilingual encouraged

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift a minimum 50 lbs,
  • Climb ladders, bending, crouching
  • Reaching, twisting, and lifting
  • Picking up boxes of supplies, and signage when needed

Key Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach inclusive digital fabrication, workshops, and course content with up to 5 course offerings per month
  • Collaborating with teams and staff to develop course curriculum
  • Attending team meetings and other meetings that apply
  • Meeting with the Education Manager on course scheduling
  • Pitching new course ideas to the Education Manager
  • Hosting events related to CNC equipment, CAD CAM design software, and similar
  • Occasional participation in outreach events is required
  • Passion for education and community building
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to collaborate with staff, board members, Ace members, and community partners
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing DEI training and workshops
  • Train and become certified on new machines and equipment as needed

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Instruction:

  • Teach a minimum of 3-5 Digital Fabrication Classes each month using curricula provided by or approved by the Ace Program Development Team. Training and certification is available when needed. Topics may include but are not limited to:
    • CNC Router Operation
    • Laser Cutter Operation
    • CNC Mill Operation
    • 3D Printer Operation
  • Track and report on student feedback to the rest of the Program Development Team
    Direct volunteer Teaching Assistants
  • Manage supply levels to ensure all classes are fully stocked and demo materials are available
  • In collaboration with teams and staff, purchase and process class supplies when needed
    Responsible for class set up and break down
  • Collaborate with Ace staff and volunteers to ensure all content is mission-focused
  • Make class project samples
  • Make sure spaces are clean and functional before and after class

Administration:

  • Updating Wiki in collaboration with teams and staff
  • Creating procedures in collaboration with staff and teams
  • Reporting any equipment needs, issues or situations to staff

Events/Outreach:

  • Some attendance at outreach events may be required

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Part-time, non-exempt, 15 to 25 hours per month. Hours vary based on your availability and workshop schedules. The possibility of additional hours depending on market trends and leadership initiative
  • Compensation: $25-30/hr DOE
  • Possibility of teaching one-on-one private classes upon approval from the Executive Director and Educational Manager
  • Health insurance benefits are not included at this time due to the small size of the organization
